Perched high in the Canadian Rockies, Fortress Mountain Resort is located just over one hour west of Calgary, Alberta in Kananaskis Country. 

With 750cm (300 inches) of average annual snowfall, wind-protected slopes, incredible tree skiing, and up to 2000+ acres of stunning terrain, Fortress is a bastion of the authentic Canadian mountain experience. 

Currently closed for lift accessed services, Fortress Mountain is undergoing the single largest redevelopment and revision program in its legendary 55 year history. Phase 1 plans will furnish new lifts, a new lodge, and much more. Fortress will soon again offer multiple generations of skiers and riders terrain and amenities to create that perfect ski day. Along with the excitement of a new winter resort, Fortress is also developing summer programs, making Fortress a year round adventure destination.

While re-development efforts occur in the background, Fortress is actively operating the area for many different activities including KPOW Cat Skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, fishing, and filming!

Fortress sadly closed its doors as a lift serviced winter ski area in 2005, much to the dismay of its many devoted and passionate fans…

While we have been keeping busy since our arrival in 2011 with cat skiing, filming, hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, and other fun stuff… bigger dreams are on the horizon! Re-development plans are well on their way to re-open the iconic area not only as a winter ski resort, but as a destination four-season mountain resort.

The scenic views and unique natural features of the property has attracted several Hollywood Film makers to film several stunning blockbuster movies. The Revenant, Cold Pursuit, Bourne Legacy, Planet of the Apes and Jumanji are a few recent moves that were filmed at our property. Our pristine location makes Fortress Mountain the first choice for many films, documentaries and commercials.
